How to Minimize Disruption During a Repiping Project

Repiping means we need access to supply lines behind walls, under sinks, and around fixtures throughout your home. That sounds like a lot of activity, but most of the inconvenience comes down to where we need access and when the water needs to be shut off.

If aging pipes keep leaking, corrosion is showing up in several places, or we're repairing one section after another, a repiping project replaces the failing supply lines throughout your home. With a clear plan before work starts, you know which rooms we need, when water service will be off, and what areas need to be cleared.

What to Expect During a Repiping Project

We start by tracing the existing supply lines and deciding where the new piping will run. Before we open a wall or move a fixture, we show you where we need access and explain what that part of the job involves.

The work usually moves through the home in sections. We shut the water off when needed, replace the planned piping, reconnect fixtures, and pressure-test the new lines before moving on.

In older Ballard homes, we often find supply lines routed through finished walls, basements, and older framing, so we plan access before the work starts.

How to Minimize Disruptions

Although repipes can create temporary disturbances around your home, there are ways you can minimize disruptions through careful planning with your repipe crew and family.

Schedule Around Your Routine

Tell us what parts of your day matter most before the job starts. If you work from home, have young children, or need a bathroom available at certain times, we plan the work sequence around that.

During Seattle's wet fall and winter months, we account for rain when the repipe requires crawlspace or exterior access.

Prepare Your Home

Clear cabinets under sinks and move furniture, storage bins, and other belongings away from the access areas we identify. The easier it is for us to reach the piping, the less time we spend moving things before the actual plumbing work begins.

In Queen Anne homes with finished walls and tighter interior spaces, giving the crew a clear path between work areas makes a noticeable difference.

Set Up Temporary Areas

If we need to work in your kitchen or bathroom, move the items you use every day before the crew arrives. Set aside toiletries, medications, pet supplies, and anything else you do not want trapped behind an active work area.

If one bathroom will be unavailable for part of the day, plan around another one before work begins.

Discuss Access Before Cutting Begins

Ask us exactly where walls, ceilings, or floors need to be opened. We should be able to show you the access points before we start and explain what patching will be needed afterward.

That is especially useful in older Capitol Hill homes where plumbing runs through finished spaces you do not want opened unnecessarily.

Maintain Safety

Keep children and pets away from active work areas. Open walls, exposed piping, tools, and temporary water shutoffs are all part of the job, and those areas need to stay clear while we work.

What to Do After the Repiping Project

Once the new piping is installed and the water is back on, run your faucets and showers and flush the toilets. Check accessible connections for leaks and pay attention to water pressure throughout the house.

Follow any flushing instructions we give you for the new lines. Then walk through the work areas and confirm what has been cleaned, what has been restored, and what wall or floor patching still needs to be completed.

Why It’s Best to Work with an Experienced Seattle Repiping Company

Before Jafco starts a repipe, we walk you through where we'll be working, when the water will be shut off, and which areas of your home need to be accessible. You know what to expect each day and what restoration work remains after the new piping is installed.

If recurring leaks, corrosion, or aging pipes have you considering repiping, schedule online with Jafco to have the system inspected and plan the work around your home.
